Seven municipalities in the District of Algoma are uniting for the launch of a regional geocaching initiative, kicking off on October 12, 2024. This extraordinary collaboration includes the communities of the City of Elliot Lake, Town of Bruce Mines, Municipality of Huron Shores, Township of Plummer Additional, Town of Thessalon, Township of Macdonald Meredith and Aberdeen Additional, and Johnson Township.This event will attract enthusiasts from across the country and beyond, with geocachers discovering exciting new caches hidden throughout the participating communities. This collaboration offers a unique opportunity for visitors to explore the natural beauty and charm of the Huron North area.Geocaching events will be hosted in each community giving participants the chance to discover local landmarks, interact with fellow seekers, and experience the region's rich culture and history. Whether you’re an experienced geocacher or new to the fun of geocaching, there’s something for everyone to discover, learn and enjoy. As a leader of this project, Councillor Jane Armstrong from the Municipality of Huron Shores cites “I am excited that we can work with our neighbouring communities to make this GeoTour a great success. This event will bring people to our beautiful region this inaugural year and beyond. Geocaching is such a fun, family activity and I am excited to be a part of it.”
